FIREPLACES
A presentation of fireplaces built in brick
The fireplace has been hugely important to human civilization. Ever since our ancient ancestors discovered and learned how to control fire, we have harnessed its fascinating power, making good use of all the opportunities it provides and protecting ourselves from its devastating potential.
It kept our ancestors warm, provided them with hot food, and protected them from predators in the dark. Over time, fireplaces moved indoors, first as an indispensable necessity and then as status symbols. To this day, the fireplace is the natural centrepiece of any room where people gather, and architects often design them accordingly.
